Job Summary
School Bus Drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related events. Drivers pick up students at designated locations - such as homes or street corners - and ensure they arrive safely and on time.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely transport students to and from school and/or school activities while following all safety procedures and state regulations.
- Operate a school bus in various weather, road, and traffic conditions.
- Comply with all traffic laws and drive in a safe and courteous manner.
- Communicate and enforce bus rules, safety procedures, and behavior expectations.
- Address student behavior appropriately and communicate with parents or guardians when needed.
- Assist students boarding or exiting the bus, including those with special needs or equipment.
- Perform daily bus inspections and basic maintenance (checking fluids, tires, cleanliness, etc.).
- Maintain comfort by regulating heating, lighting, and ventilation systems.
- Complete required reports and documentation accurately and on time.
- Operate a two-way radio and follow assigned routes using maps or written directions.
- Maintain a clean and safe vehicle at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
- CDL Class A or B - or the ability to obtain.
- Endorsements: Passenger (P) and School Bus (S).
- Ability to pass a DOT medical examination.
- Problem Solving: Able to identify, analyze, and resolve issues quickly.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Oral & Written Communication: Clear, professional, and effective communication skills.
- Organization: Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Quality & Dependability: Consistent, accurate, and reliable performance.
- Adaptability: Works well in a changing environment and manages competing priorities.
