Forklift Operator, Material Handler, General Labor
Job Description
We are looking for an associate in material handling and equipment maintenance role involves operating and troubleshooting equipment, performing maintenance, and supporting warehouse operations in a high‑speed manufacturing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot equipment to meet BD’s Quality Standards.
- Maintain and repair equipment within associate capability; follow department escalation plan.
- Assist with radiation emergencies when they occur.
- Perform general warehouse functions: shipping, receiving, loading and unloading of raw materials and finished goods.
- Operate material handling equipment, including forklift, slip sheet, yard truck, and box truck.
- Drive company trucks (box truck, yard truck, and trailer) between plant buildings and the warehouse.
- Assist operators in loading and unloading products; prepare product for manual or automated processing.
- Back trailers to loading docks; open and close trailer/container doors.
- Load sterilized product onto trailers and use load sheets for documentation.
- Perform daily yard checks; place temporary or shipping seals on trailers.
- Load pallets and hand‑load boxes into load robot; verify product counts.
- Follow run sheet and written procedures to ensure correct product loading.
- Provide training for new associates.
- Communicate and maintain relationships with coworkers, vendors, and freight companies.
- Work with minimal supervision; ensure on‑time deliveries of all materials.
- Obey all company safety rules, lockout procedures, and job safety analysis.
- Perform authorized SAP transactions and general housekeeping.
- Participate in Technical Review Sessions (TRS) and other maintenance activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
- High school diploma or equivalent (required). Vocational/technical school preferred.
- 1 year warehouse or sterilization experience preferred (not required).
- Must hold a valid driver’s license.
- Forklift qualification within 3 months of hire.
- Yard truck operation certification within 3 months.
- Sterilization job‑function certification within 6 months; all functions within 1 year.
- Radiation certification to be acquired within 12 months.
- Background check clearance and fingerprints for FBI review.
Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of SAP processes for material movement.
- Ability to move trailers into position and understand loading procedures.
- Knowledge of sterilization operations.
- Strong business decision‑making and prioritization skills.
- Understanding of product defects, specifications, and procedures.
- Ability to shift quickly between tasks.
- Proficiency in completing forms and paperwork.
- Skill in training new personnel.
- Fluent English (spoken, read, write).
- Computer skills with SAP, Excel, and Word (basic).
- Good interpersonal skills.
PCP Level 3:
Exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
High‑speed manufacturing environment with intermittent exposure to chemicals, dust, heat, fumes, noise, vibration, and weather. No air‑conditioning in parts of the sterilization/warehouse area. Workers must wear safety glasses. Physical exertion, including lifting, may be required.
