Dow is seeking a MES Engineer to join our team in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta!
As part of this role, you will guide engineering activities for capital and expense projects throughout the Front‑End Loading, Detailed Design, Construction, and Start‑up phases. You will be the lead for the engineering team on capital projects or act as the MES Project Lead. You will take charge of intermediate or smaller large projects, usually between $300K and $5MM. The role demands advanced conceptual and practical knowledge in your area, with opportunities for further skill development.
Responsibilities- Take charge of project execution and mentor the team on using the Global Project Methodology (GPM) framework.
- Manage planning and organization throughout the design and construction stages.
- Formulate staffing plans for project needs.
- Oversee coordination across design engineering, procurement, and construction functions.
- Lead the execution planning process, including formulating contracting strategies.
- Evaluate project risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Track and update the project schedule and cost estimates while monitoring progress closely.
- Ensure scope changes are managed properly and that the project meets its cost, cycle time, and quality targets.
- Provide the facility with as‑built and operations/maintenance documentation at project completion.
- A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Engineering.
- Must be registered with APEGA (EIT/P. Eng) or able to register within one year of employment.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant field, such as project engineering, manufacturing, or related disciplines.
- Ability to safely work in a plant setting, handle physical tasks, work at elevated heights, and utilize PPE and safety equipment, including harnesses with a capacity of 300lbs (accommodations may be made up to 500lbs). Willingness to undergo training on equipment use is required.
- The candidate must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Visa sponsorship or residency support is not available.
- Project Management Guarantee that the project scope is clearly defined, track milestone progress, and manage risks, including during the construction phase.
- Team Management Work with diverse teams by implementing techniques to detect issues and resolve conflicts promptly.
- Planning and Organization Efficiently organize, plan, and prioritize the work required for project success.
- Stakeholder Management Identify stakeholders, assess their influence, develop a strategy for communication, and keep them engaged.
- Communication Foster effective communication across project, construction, and plant operations teams to ensure safe and collaborative execution.
