Position: Elementary School Library Teacher (SY2026-2027)

Reports to:

Director of Instructional Technology and Innovation, K-12

School Librarian:

* Fosters a creative, flexible environment so that the school library is an essential part of the learning community

* Develops and maintains resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and instructional strategies and priorities of the school community

* Cooperates and networks with other libraries/agencies, within and outside of the District

* Establishes equity-centered, data-informed procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, resource sharing of resources in all formats

* Evaluates, promotes and uses existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning, specifically in the area of school library and research skills

* Promotes the ethical use of information: copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property

Teacher Responsibilities:

* Promotes a love of reading and lifelong learning

* Collaborates with classroom teachers as an instructional partner

* Collaborates to design, teach, and assess learning experiences that incorporate inquiry learning, information literacies in various formats, critical thinking and self-assessment

* Provides and plans professional development for teachers, as directed

* Promotes instructional technology to improve learning, and collaborates regularly with technology integration specialist

* Teaches students to build on prior knowledge to construct new knowledge

Leader:

* Partners in literacy initiatives alongside school-based instructional coaching teams and participates regularly in literacy based professional development to gain an understanding of literacy instructional strategies at the elementary level to support and lead staff

* Participates in school improvement activities; as directed

* Benchmarks the school library program to school, state, and national standards

* Advises the Director on purchasing, curation and district initiatives as needed

* Stays current in professional practices, educational research; maintains active professional memberships

* Collaborates regularly with district-wide school library team in support of district projects and initiatives

* Collects and analyzes data to improve instruction, demonstrates correlations between the school library program and student achievement, specifically literacy initiatives

* In collaboration with the Director, administers the school library budget to support program and district goals

* Participates in the recruiting, hiring, training and supervising of library staff and volunteers; contributes to the evaluation of support staff as needed

Reports to the Director of Instructional Technology and Innovation, K-12

Qualifications:

* Current Massachusetts DESE license for Elementary Library Teacher

* Classroom teaching experience strongly preferred

* Experience using instructional technology tools and resources strongly preferred

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary is based on education and experience per Unit A contract. Salary range for a Bachelor's $63,217-$101,212.
