Needham Public Schools is an inclusive, dynamic, and multicultural community seeking an energetic, skilled, and warm 1st grade teacher for a 1‑year position.
Essential Performance Responsibilities- Develops and administers the school elementary curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that best utilize instruction time.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instruction to meet individual student needs, including students with special needs.
- Instructs students in responsible citizenship and other subjects per applicable laws and district regulations.
- Continues professional development by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings.
- Maintains records for grading, reporting, attendance, and other student activities in accordance with district procedures.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Enforces school conduct standards and establishes behavior expectations to maintain a functional learning environment.
- Coordinates with other elementary staff to evaluate curriculum and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional supplies and maintains inventory records.
- Supervises students during non‑classroom activities, including transportation.
- Administers standardized tests according to district testing programs.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and the ability to differentiate instruction based on student learning styles. Training/experience in reading, writing, and mathematics instruction and an interest in science content.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive practices.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts; proficiency with data systems, analysis, and action plan formulation.
- Organizational and coordination skills.
- Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Self‑evaluation skills for performance and professional growth.
- Collaborative skills for maintaining working relationships with colleagues.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in Elementary 1‑6 with an SEI endorsement or dual certification in ESL.
Salary based on education and experience:
Bachelor’s (Step
1) $63,217 to Doctorate (Step 14) $133,922 (1.0 FTE).
