Associate Director

Responsibilities

The primary role of the Associate Director is to serve as a member of the Undergraduate Senior Management team, advising and implementing the strategic institutional and admission goals set by the Vice President, Enrollment Management. Specifically responsible for managing a robust portfolio, in addition to managing the Admission team’s junior counseling staff, who also manage projects; recruiting, advising, and enrolling prospective students to the College and serving as an integral member of a 13-person admission committee;

presenting to various contingencies, including school counselors, students and parents, and community‑based organizations; reviewing applications to the college and being solely responsible for managing the recruitment of a geographic region of the world in which their primary responsibility is critically assessing applications, making critical and thoughtful admission decisions, and applying strategic thought to create an impactful and inclusive campus community;

and managing all responsibilities while taking into consideration content and delivery modalities for both in‑person and virtual audiences.

Serves as a member of the senior management team and participates in weekly discussions with Dean and Director of Admission.

Leads a team in overall management and implementation of the Admission Office’s strategic goals, which come from the College’s institutional goals and priorities. This may include self‑management of marketing strategy, transfer admission, events management, and more. Also includes oversight of junior staff managing similar strategies.

Directly manages anywhere from 1 to 2 Assistant or Senior Assistant Directors of Admission. This includes initial onboarding, oversight of goals, and professional development.

Simultaneously supports all Admission strategies that reach both virtual and in‑person audiences; has high‑level knowledge of various platforms which support all admission initiatives.

Manages a geographic region of the world and is responsible for the oversight of enrollment funnel trends in those areas and seeks out opportunities for partnerships. Includes recruitment processes such as travel to high schools, college fairs, community‑based organizations and large‑scale opportunities. Cultivates relationships with students, school counselors, community‑based organization partners.

Reviews admission applications to the College, presents recommendations to the admission committee and has ownership in decision‑making processes. In addition, serves as the second reader for all applications read by first‑time admission counselors.

Liaises with on‑campus partners to cultivate and maintain strong working relationships that ensure all aspects of the College’s experiences are represented throughout the admission process (i.e., Office of Student Engagement, Office of Multicultural and Identity Programs, Residential Life, etc.).

Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Education and Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree

Requires a minimum of 6‑8 years of previous experience; previous college admission/college counseling experience required; and a minimum of 2‑3 years managing staff.

Must embrace the philosophy of Entrepreneurial Thought and Action and use creativity and innovation in decision‑making.

Ability to stay informed of industry trends and developments to help guide the Office’s admission process and operations.

Must have a commitment to a diverse working environment and to cultivating a diverse community.

Must have excellent public speaking, collaborative, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Google Suite.

Demonstrated interest in enrolling and retaining a diverse student body with a focused interest in the value of a global education.

Willingness to serve as a liaison to other offices on campus.
