Needham Public Schools is an inclusive, dynamic, and multicultural community seeking an energetic, skilled, and warm 0.5 Kindergarten Special Education Liaison (1 yr. position) to join our team.
This position will work under the general supervision of the Special Education Coordinator and School Principal to optimize the learning experience of students with special needs, including academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living.
Essential Functions- Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommends courses of action to overcome them.
- Participates in team meetings and assists in developing Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) for students.
- Assists students and teaching staff in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans.
- Coordinates with administrators, teachers, and service providers to ascertain students’ abilities and needs.
- Serves as a liaison between home and school, supporting students and parents for increased personal growth and behavioral management.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge by attending workshops, research, and maintaining professional relationships.
- Organizes and maintains a record‑keeping system and provides data to write progress reports.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication.
- Assists in orientation and training of new teaching assistants.
- Priority given to applicants with Wilson or Orton‑Gillingham training and/or certification.
- Provides direct instruction across the curriculum with accommodations and modifications per student needs.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Special Education Coordinator, and central office administrators.
- Knowledge of Special Education principles, testing, and proven methods for maximizing educational experience.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data systems, analysis, and action plan formulation.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Certification/License:
- Massachusetts State Certification as an Elementary Special Education Teacher.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Master’s degree in Special Education.
Salary is determined by education and experience, ranging from Bachelor's (Step
1) $31,608.50 to Doctorate (Step 14) $66,961.00 (pro‑rated for 0.5 FTE).
