Job DescriptionAbout Needham Public Schools (NPS): NPS is committed to equity, cultural proficiency, and community collaboration. NPS serves approximately 5,500 students across five elementary schools, two middle schools, and one nationally‑ranked high school.
Job Summary: Eliot Elementary School seeks a dependable, student‑centered Wellness Educator who is passionate about movement and capable of creating a safe, organized, and inclusive environment where every child feels successful. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong classroom management, uses clear routines and positive reinforcement, and is committed to the holistic growth of all students.
Position Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging lessons in 5th‑grade health education and K‑to‑5 physical education.
- Support students’ social and emotional development through movement and play.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance student learning, growth, and well‑being.
- Maintain a structured and safe environment with clear expectations and consistent routines.
- Valid Massachusetts DESE license in Physical Education Pre‑K‑to‑8 (health certification preferred).
- Completion of a teacher preparation program, including student‑teaching experience.
- Experience working with elementary‑aged students in a physical education setting.
- Strong understanding of skills‑based instruction and Teaching Games for Understanding.
- Dependable, punctual, and professional with a warm, student‑centered approach.
License: Candidates must possess a valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as a health and physical education teacher.
Compensation and BenefitsSalary is determined by education and experience, ranging from Bachelor’s (Step 1) $25,286.80 to Doctorate (Step 14) $53,568.80 (prorated for 0.4 FTE). Please review Unit Contract A and the associated benefits details for full information.
