- As a Mechanical Engineering Co-op, you’ll work with a world-class team to create breakthrough innovations across categories like floorcare, air purification, garment care, and beauty (from high-powered vacuums and steam mops to next-generation hair dryers and stylers).
- Gain hands-on experience across the full product lifecycle: prototyping, testing, refining, and delivering products that balance performance, user-centric design, and reliability.
- Contribute to concepting and development through brainstorming, sketching, and prototyping bold ideas.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and product managers to explore innovative solutions to real-world consumer challenges.
- Build, test, and iterate prototypes and lab rigs; validate performance, usability, and reliability.
- Analyze data from testing and consumer feedback to inform design decisions and optimize product functionality.
- Participate in technical deep-dives and design reviews to identify root causes and propose practical solutions.
- Take ownership of engineering tasks with increasing complexity; gain exposure to materials, mechanisms, manufacturing, and mass production considerations.
- Support design feasibility analysis, CAD modeling, and technical documentation alongside experienced engineers.
- Understand the user journey and drive innovations that surprise and delight.
- Learn from failure, move fast, and iterate with purpose to bring new ideas to life at startup speed with global brand support.
- Education:
Current student in a related associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral program, or has graduated within the past year. - Must be able to work a full-time, 40-hour-per-week schedule onsite in Needham, MA.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering/physics fundamentals including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
- Experience with a CAD program (Solid Works and/or Creo).
- Hands-on prototype development experience in plastic and metal, including using basic machine shop tools.
- Analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential problems.
- Intellectual curiosity, creativity, first-principles thinking, and the ability to deliver robust, elegant design solutions.
- Willingness to engage in hands-on development and testing tasks.
- Effective communication with technical and non-technical colleagues across roles.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to shifting priorities while keeping long-term goals in view.
- Passion for product design and function; exposure to 3D printing/laser cutting.
- Familiarity with electronics (analog/digital), test equipment, and components common in small appliances (sensors, motors, heaters, PCBAs).
- Ability to identify, solve, implement, and verify technical solutions independently and in teams.
- Hands-on prototyping and experimental testing experience in a workshop or science context.
- Experience with developer kits such as Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi is desirable.
