Senior Applied Research Engineer – Needham, MA

We are looking for a Senior Applied Research Engineer to join our New Product Development team and help push the boundaries of what consumer products can do.

• Lead hands‑on design and development of consumer products from concept through launch and support
• Work daily with cross‑functional engineering and product teams to understand system performance and tradeoffs
• Drive brainstorming sessions, build proof‑of‑concept prototypes, and run rigorous tests
• Mentor mechanical engineers, co‑ops, and interns
• See your work come to life — in stores, online, and in homes around the world

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of product design and development experience
• Strong intuition for physics and engineering fundamentals — equally at home running an experiment as reviewing data
• Proficiency in Solid Works or CREO; comfort with Excel, Minitab, or MATLAB for data analysis
• Hands‑on prototyping skills: 3D printing, machining, hand tools, and clean assembly work
• Experience designing and executing controlled experiments in a lab setting
• Clear communicator who can translate technical findings for any audience

• Background at a consumer product or consulting firm
• Experience with electronics, sensors, motors, heaters, or PCBAs
• Proven ability to juggle multiple projects without losing sight of long‑term goals

Salary range: $85,000 – $145,000 USD.
