Position: Clinical Pharmacist (Per Diem)

Job Summary

Supports the mission of the department by providing pharmaceutical care to all patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham.

  • Review electronic and written orders to ensure appropriate medication, route, dose, and dosing interval is prescribed.
  • Interface with healthcare team members on medication order issues.
  • Supervise support staff (technicians, interns) to ensure medication doses are prepared correctly under State and Federal regulations.
  • Act as preceptor for pharmacy students, ensuring a high‑quality educational experience.
  • Serve as pharmacy liaison on assigned committees, providing expertise in pharmaceutical care, drug information, and pharmacy operations.
  • Provide drug information in a timely manner, including in‑services, drug information sheets, and drug reviews as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational quality assurance and performance improvement projects.
Responsibilities
  • Clinically review all medication orders to ensure safety and appropriateness (drug selection, allergy, dose, route, diagnosis, labs, duplication, interactions, age).
  • Dispense medication into the automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) on nursing units following departmental policy and patient safety.
  • Review orders entered by independent prescribers and ensure appropriateness.
  • Enter written orders into the pharmacy computer system with attention to nurse administration.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians, graduate pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and PharmD students, ensuring daily patient needs are met and educating staff on safe medication practices.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required;
    Doctoral degree in pharmacy preferred.
  • Experience:

    1–3 years of relevant clinical hospital experience.
  • License/Certification:
    Massachusetts pharmacist license required.
Pay Range

$57.00 – $76.71 per hour. Actual compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on factors such as seniority, education, training, experience, certifications, geography, job responsibilities, and permissible additional pay practices.

Vaccination Requirement

All staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
