The Insurance New Business Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day processing of life insurance applications from submission through underwriting, approval, and policy placement. This role serves as a primary point of coordination between financial advisors, clients, insurance carriers, medical vendors, and internal teams to ensure applications are processed accurately, efficiently, and with clear communication throughout the process.

The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned cases, communicate underwriting requirements clearly and proactively, coordinate medical and financial requirements, and help move applications through underwriting to final placement and inforce status. Over time, this individual will also develop expertise in available carrier underwriting programs and help educate financial advisors and their staff on field underwriting, application preparation, and New Business best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and manage life insurance applications from initial submission through underwriting, approval, policy delivery, and placement
  • Review applications for completeness, accuracy, and potential issues before submission to insurance carriers
  • Monitor the status of pending applications and proactively follow up on outstanding requirements
  • Clearly communicate underwriting requirements, case status, outstanding items, and next steps to financial advisors and their staff
  • Order and coordinate paramedical exams, laboratory testing, medical records, attending physician statements, and other underwriting requirements
  • Work with medical vendors, insurance carriers, advisors, and clients to obtain outstanding information and keep cases moving forward
  • Assist advisors in understanding underwriting requirements and preparing clients for the underwriting process
  • Coordinate policy issue, delivery requirements, premium collection, and placement to ensure approved policies are successfully placed inforce
  • Identify potential delays, incomplete information, or NIGO issues and work proactively to resolve them
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes, documentation, and status information within internal systems
  • Develop working knowledge of carrier-specific underwriting programs, accelerated underwriting opportunities, simplified issue programs, and other available underwriting pathways
  • Build strong working relationships with insurance carriers and underwriting teams
  • Support department initiatives aimed at improving application quality, placement rates, processing times, and the overall advisor experience

An important component of this role is helping financial advisors and their teams submit cleaner, more complete business and better understand the underwriting process.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide training to financial advisors and their staff on insurance application best practices
  • Educate advisors on effective field underwriting and the importance of gathering complete medical, financial, and lifestyle information prior to application
  • Train advisor teams on New Business processes, documentation requirements, carrier expectations, and common causes of application delays
  • Help advisors understand available underwriting programs and how to identify cases that may qualify
  • Develop and maintain practical resources, checklists, guides, and other materials that improve application quality and processing efficiency
  • Reinforce best practices that reduce NIGO submissions, unnecessary underwriting delays, and client frustration
Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 2–5 years of experience in life insurance New Business, case management, insurance operations, brokerage, or financial services preferred
  • Experience working with life insurance applications and underwriting requirements strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with life insurance products, including term, whole life, universal life, and other permanent insurance products
  • Experience working with insurance carriers, medical vendors, or policy administration systems is beneficial
  • Experience supporting CRM’s
  • Strong organizational and case-management skills
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent follow-through and sense of ownership
  • Ability to manage multiple applications and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate underwriting requirements clearly and professionally
