Position Summary

For over 40 years, North Hill, a not-for-profit senior living community located in Needham, Massachusetts, has provided vibrant living opportunities to people 65+ by offering a host of hospitality, wellness and health care services. The Kitchen Manager will manage a culinary team to prepare and present restaurant-quality entrées and desserts utilizing fresh, seasonal, and local products.

Specific Duties

  • Responsible for all aspects of food production, including ordering, receiving, proper storage, rotation, and preparation of menus
  • Orchestrates a fast‑paced meal service while maintaining consistency and quality to ensure Resident’s and guests’ expectations are met
  • Manages inventory to properly order on a daily basis to satisfy our production needs and stays within budget
  • Prioritizes and handles a wide range of tasks simultaneously while working efficiently to meet daily production demands
  • Manages the team assigned to them and handles any corrective action issues as outlined in policy and procedure manuals
  • Monitors staff hygiene and ensures all staff are compliant with health and safety standards
  • Conducts pre-meal huddle before each meal period to share appropriate information with Team Members
  • Orders products from a variety of vendors based on cost and quality comparisons
  • Guides, motivates, and develops Team Members under their supervision
  • Performs administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc.
  • Coordinates dining service with other departments as necessary
  • Works with the department’s leadership team as necessary and implements recommended changes as required
  • Works collaboratively with front of the house team to ensure excellent customer service in all aspects of food service
  • Adapts schedule when necessary to accommodate emergencies, such as snow storms, Department of Public Health surveys, state of emergency and other unforeseen circumstances
  • Ensures adequate coverage through management and scheduling of Team Members
  • Operates all equipment safely, seeking manufacturer instructions when unsure of proper use
  • Ensures the department is kept clean, neat, safe, and necessary equipment and supplies are maintained
  • Maintains culinary skills and stays abreast of trends in the field
  • Provides caring, thoughtful and engaging service at all times
  • Communicates any challenges, complaints or service difficulties to immediate supervisor
  • Assists with establishing policies and procedures
  • Identifies and recommends expansions to technology and equipment
  • Assists in drafting and implementing the department’s budget
  • Serves and participates in strategic planning process as directed
  • Meets department uniform, appearance, and grooming requirements
  • Complies with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety
Required

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong customer support skills
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with Team Members, Residents, family members, visitors, and the general public
  • Work professionally with people from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • When working in Resident areas, must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Attends and participates in in-service educational classes, Healthcare Academy, and staff meetings as directed
  • Ability to build a cohesive team while maintaining productivity
  • Complies with protection of health information (HIPAA) safeguards
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of culinary experience is required
  • 2 years’ experience in a leadership position
  • Serve Safe Certification
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Satisfactory completion of a background investigation is required for this position.
