Bus/Van Monitor

Monitors are responsible for monitoring and assisting students while being transported to Needham Public Schools.

Bus/Van Monitors report to the Transportation Director.

Responsibilities
  • The primary responsibility of a Bus Monitor is to ride the bus each day on the morning and evening routes; attend to the general supervision of all students on the vehicle. Manage proper seating and student use of PPE. Bus Monitors must wear a mask at all times on the vehicle. They must also assist driver in cleaning / wiping down vehicle between runs.
  • Bus Monitors must board the vehicle at the bus yard and remain on the vehicle at all times until every student has reached his or her stop.
  • Bus Monitors are required to assist students in and out of the vehicle if necessary.
  • Bus Monitors are required to check the vehicle to ensure that all students have exited at the appropriate stops.
  • Bus Monitors must exhibit proper behavior at all times. Bus Monitors are role models and should not engage in horseplay or arguments with students or parents.
  • Bus Monitors must document any discipline issue with a student and submit it daily to the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Students should not be allowed to leave the vehicle anywhere other than their assigned stops unless instructed by the bus monitor. If a student leaves the vehicle without authorization, the Bus Monitors will direct the driver to contact the dispatcher immediately.
  • Students must be prohibited from consuming food or beverages, smoking, or bringing radios on the vehicle. Bus Monitors must also abide by these rules.
  • In the event of an absence, Bus Monitors must inform the Transportation Director and Bus Driver, one-half hour before your scheduled reporting time for the morning and/or at least two hours before your scheduled reporting time for the afternoon if at all possible.
  • Participates in school bus safety drills.
  • Bus Monitors are also responsible for performing other related duties as directed by their supervisors.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Compensation: $19.18/hr
