Senior Paper making Engineer
As a Senior Paper making Engineer at Georgia‑Pacific’s Neenah Technical Center, you will lead early‑stage research and pilot trials, design experiments, evaluate results, and translate successful concepts into commercially viable solutions that improve product performance and manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities- Identify and lead research projects focused on paper making technologies for tissue‑based consumer product manufacturing, creating new or improved products or machine performance.
- Design, develop, prototype, and test cutting‑edge paper making components, equipment, and machinery while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to drive innovation.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert in tissue making technology, providing troubleshooting, training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to team members.
- Work with internal capabilities—including Operations, Engineering, and Product Development—to drive transformation within the company and scale experiments from pilot to commercial feasibility.
- Collaborate with external partners such as academic institutions, industry consortiums, and suppliers/OEMs to identify and evaluate new technologies and stay current on industry advancements.
- Apply economic thinking to determine project viability, use the scientific method to test feasibility, and employ statistical methods to analyze data. Communicate findings and next steps clearly in written and verbal formats.
- Support the organization by developing intellectual property including competitive intelligence, invention disclosures, patent applications, and preserving trade secrets.
- Bachelor’s degree in paper making, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
- Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in the paper industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading R&D projects and scaling successful concepts toward commercialization.
- Proficiency with experimental design and statistical analysis methods (e.g., DOE, ANOVA, regression) and comfort documenting and communicating technical results.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in paper making, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
- Hands‑on experience in industrial or manufacturing settings with pilot and commercial paper making equipment.
- Track record of intellectual property contributions (invention disclosures, patent experience) and familiarity with protecting trade secrets.
- Demonstrated success partnering with external research institutions, suppliers, or OEMs to accelerate technology adoption.
