Licensed Practical Nurse; LPN - Medical Services

Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice clinician, or physician, provides patient‑centered, specialized, evidence‑based nursing care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. The LPN is accountable for delivering compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and Theda Care policy.

Full time, benefit eligible: 30 hours per week (2 shifts one week, 3 shifts the next). Day shift, 5:30am‑6:00pm. Every third weekend rotation and holiday rotation.

• Perform delegated tasks using evidence‑based practice and specific competencies to collect data on the physical condition and nursing needs of patients, and assist with implementing the plan of care.
• Assist in meeting the care needs of the patient in collaboration with the interprofessional team to provide the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes.
• Demonstrate clinical expertise in the assigned specialty and perform all functions of the licensed practical nurse that are age appropriate, developmentally sensitive, and culturally specific.
• Identify ways to improve the patient’s experience of care, streamline care processes, and lower costs while promoting quality to improve patient, family, and team member satisfaction.
• Contribute to a professional environment that encourages mentoring, engagement, and development to retain expert clinicians.
• Maintain positive relationships with physicians and other interprofessional team members, collaborating to problem solve and improve patient care.
• Demonstrate, anticipate, and proactively manage risk to prevent crises.
• Perform skillfully in life‑threatening emergencies, matching demands and resources during crisis situations.

• Current Wisconsin LPN Licensure.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS).

• Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, pulling) and lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens while performing job duties.

• Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments.
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
• Occasional high noise level.
• Standing and/or walking for extended periods.
• Transporting patients and/or equipment from one location to another.
• Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.
• Occasional contact with aggressive or combative patients.
