Public Works Crewman
The Public Works Crewman position is responsible for collecting, transporting, and disposing garbage, trash, and recyclable materials. The position is also responsible for a variety of roadway maintenance and public works construction tasks. The Public Works Crewperson will be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Public Works Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent, or the Fleet Superintendent.
Key responsibilities include operating automated collection trucks for refuse and recycling, performing manual collection of household and yard waste, operating vehicles, heavy machinery, and equipment for street-related tasks, hauling various materials, operating snow and ice removal equipment, maintaining streets, sidewalks, sewers, gutters, and lift stations, cleaning and maintaining detention pond fountains and aerators, performing forestry tasks, repairing streets, maintaining landscaping, pouring and finishing concrete for pavement, curbs, and sidewalks, assisting other departments as needed, installing decorative banners and flags, performing routine maintenance on City vehicles and facilities, communicating with supervisors, co-workers, citizens, and vendors, maintaining punctual, predictable attendance and working overtime as needed, and completing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include a high school diploma, one or more years of heavy manual work experience, a good driving record, and a valid State of Wisconsin CDL with B, C, D, and Class N (tanker) endorsement or the ability to earn one within 6 months of hire.
Salary and benefits include a starting pay of $22.14 depending on experience, and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and life insurance, participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System, paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation.
