Job DescriptionThe Librarian Assistant will help the Librarian to develop in each pupil an appreciation of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, recognize and develop the talents and curiosity of students, and engage students in creative activities. The assistant will instill a love of learning and empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe job of Librarian Assistant will be to aid the Librarian with teaching different concepts and maintaining the school library.
- Assist with instruction.
- Collaborate with the Librarian as a partner in the instructional process.
- Apply critical thinking and problem solving to improve work processes.
- Analyze data and adapt teaching methods and strategies to maximize student achievement.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and the Librarian to design and implement lessons and units of instruction and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness.
- Promote digital citizenship and responsible use of digital and print resources.
- Assist the Librarian in grant writing efforts, data collection, and implementation.
- Work with Librarian in setting short-term and year-long goals for curricular units based on sound principles and practices of learning; monitor progress toward goals and objectives
- Demonstrate the ability to model, deliver, and facilitate rich student-centered learning experiences
- Understand and help to design, develop, assess, and manage learning experiences.
- Aid the Librarian in identifying and applying educational and technology-related research, the psychology of learning, and instructional design principles in guiding use of technology in education. Identify, implement, and investigate software.
- Work as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities.
- Foster a creative, flexible environment so that the school library is an essential part of the learning community.
- Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among students and staff.
- Evaluate, promote and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, staff and administration using expected professional standards.
- Participate actively in team/department/staff meetings.
Supervise students at all times.

Other requirements- Excellent communication skills.
- Evidence of planning, organization, and time management skills that will bring structure and accountability to the position.
- Ability to collaborate with teachers regarding student learning.
- A working knowledge base of Professional Learning Communities, Response to Intervention, and research-based learning, is preferred.
