History Instructor

position summary

we are seeking a highly qualified, discipline‑focused history instructor with strong preparation in u.s., western civilization, and world history. The instructor will teach college‑level coursework with clarity, rigor, and relevance, contribute to a general education curriculum, and support students pursuing transfer and career pathways.

teach history courses, including history of the united states and western civilization, as assigned by the division chair(s) and in keeping with institutional guidelines; assist students with academic advising and enrollment as needed; contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and review; and fulfill committee and divisional responsibilities. Assignments may include all instructional delivery methods (traditional, hybrid, and online). Teaching load is fifteen (15) credit hours per semester and may include day, evening, or off‑site classes.

• devote full professional effort to maximizing student learning outcomes.
• teach college‑level courses in history and related social science courses as assigned.
• design and deliver instruction appropriate to all approved modes of delivery.
• serve as a role model for historical inquiry, critical thinking, and civic engagement.
• maintain confidentiality with respect to student records and information.
• develop and distribute course syllabi aligned with institutional standards.
• develop, administer, and evaluate assignments, exams, and research‑based learning activities.
• incorporate primary and secondary sources to support historical analysis and interpretation.
• maintain accurate grades and submit required reports by deadlines.
• meet classes as scheduled and maintain regular office hours.
• serve on committees and attend required college functions, including commencement.

• master’s degree required in history or a closely related field of social science. Phd preferred.
• graduate preparation sufficient to teach survey and specialized history courses at the college level.
• strong command of historical thinking skills, including analysis, interpretation, research, and argumentation.
• ability to engage students with diverse perspectives, sources, and historiographical approaches.
• experience incorporating writing, discussion, and inquiry‑based learning in the classroom.
• proficiency with microsoft 365 and learning management systems such as canvas.

this position is generally sedentary and based in standard classroom and office environments, with regular mobility across campus and instructional sites. Evening and weekend hours and occasional travel may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
