Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs in accordance with state and federal requirements.

  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction based on students’ academic, behavioral, communication, social-emotional, and functional needs.

  • Use assessment and progress-monitoring data to plan instruction, measure progress, and adjust supports.

  • Implement appropriate accommodations, modifications, interventions, and behavior-support plans.

  • Create a safe, structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support student access to grade‑level curriculum and meaningful participation in the general education setting.

  • Coordinate services with related-service providers, counselors, behavior specialists, nurses, administrators, and other members of the student-support team.

  • Facilitate IEP meetings and communicate student progress, needs, and successes clearly and professionally with families.

  • Provide guidance, direction, and support to paraprofessionals working with assigned students.

  • Maintain accurate student records, service documentation, progress‑monitoring data, and other required special education records.

  • Support students in developing academic skills, communication, independence, self‑regulation, and positive social interactions.

  • Participate in collaborative team meetings, professional development, and building and district improvement efforts.

  • Protect student dignity, confidentiality, safety, and well‑being.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate will:

  • Believe that all students can learn, grow, and contribute.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Maintain high expectations while responding appropriately to individual student needs.

  • Use evidence-based instructional, behavioral, and communication practices.

  • Demonstrate strong organization, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

  • Maintain a calm, consistent, and solution-focused approach.

  • Effectively supervise, support, and provide direction to paraprofessionals.

  • Value inclusive practices and support student participation in the broader school community.

  • Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, dependability, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate in Special Education or eligibility to obtain appropriate certification.

  • Knowledge of special education law, IEP development, progress monitoring, differentiated instruction, accommodations, modifications, and behavior support.

  • Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.

  • CPR, First Aid, crisis-prevention, or other relevant training may be required based on assigned responsibilities.
