Forklift Operator
SUMMARY
The Recycle Center position involves engaging with customers, sorting recyclables, maintaining the warehouse, and handling equipment including forklifts and balers. The successful candidate will perform semi-skilled maintenance, conduct inventory, and manage safety procedures in an outdoor and indoor environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES- Greets customers as they bring recyclables.
- Ensures recyclables are sorted into proper bins.
- Separates recycled materials and processes aluminum cans.
- Weighs and stores recyclables.
- Conducts a monthly inventory of materials.
- Maintains and organizes the warehouse and yard.
- Loads trucks for shipping.
- Cleans all areas of the buildings.
- Monitors and documents community service personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of equipment and tools used in the assigned area.
- Knowledge of recyclable materials versus trash.
- Basic mathematical concepts.
- Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Ability to perform a variety of semi‑skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work.
- Ability to conduct research about recyclable materials and contaminants.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and with the public.
- Physical capability to lift or move moderate to heavy weights, walk, stand, bend, and operate a forklift and baler for extended periods.
- Capacity for mental tasks such as making sound decisions, using good judgment, and following oral and written instructions.
- Ability to handle work conditions involving exposure to dust, dirt, and contaminants.
High school diploma or equivalent. Some experience collecting recyclables is desired.
WORKING CONDITIONS Environmental ConditionsExposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, odors, inclement weather (heat and cold), and contaminated materials; operating a forklift.
Physical ConditionsRequires walking, standing, bending, pushing, crawling, crouching, and lifting heavy objects for prolonged periods; operation of motorized equipment.
Tools and EquipmentForklift, baler, mower, strapper, bender, and various hand tools.
SCREENING REQUIREMENTS- Must successfully complete pre‑employment substance abuse testing.
- Will be subject to background investigation.
- Will be subject to random substance abuse testing.
