Description

We are looking for an experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager to support a growing operation in New Jersey. This Contract to hire position will take ownership of day-to-day HR leadership while helping the organization strengthen compliance, employee support, and people practices. The ideal candidate is comfortable working closely with site leadership and frontline teams, with the ability to balance hands-on execution and strategic HR guidance.

Responsibilities:

- Lead full-cycle recruitment efforts, including candidate sourcing, interview coordination, offer support, and structured onboarding for new employees.

- Oversee new employee documentation and maintain compliance with employment eligibility verification requirements and personnel records.

- Serve as the primary resource for employee relations matters by addressing attendance concerns, conducting workplace investigations, guiding corrective action, and supporting conflict resolution.

- Manage performance processes by coaching supervisors, documenting issues appropriately, and helping leaders address employee development and accountability.

- Administer employee benefits and leave programs, ensuring accurate coordination, communication, and follow-up for time-off and leave requests.

- Coordinate workers' compensation cases and partner with internal stakeholders to support reporting, documentation, and return-to-work efforts.

- Monitor wage and hour practices to help ensure adherence to labor regulations, accurate timekeeping processes, and sound employment documentation.

- Develop, revise, and implement HR policies, handbook content, and training programs related to compliance, safety, and employee development.

- Build practical HR programs that strengthen recruitment structure, retention efforts, leadership capability, and employee engagement across the site.

Requirements

- 5+ years of progressive human resources experience with increasing responsibility across employee relations, compliance, and HR operations.

- Prior experience supporting an hourly workforce in environments such as manufacturing, distribution, logistics, transportation, hospitality, facilities services, food production, or other industrial settings.

- Demonstrated success serving as the primary HR lead for a site or across multiple locations.

- Working knowledge of payroll processes, time and attendance practices, leave administration, benefits deductions, reporting, and audit support.

- Strong understanding of employment law, documentation standards, investigations, corrective action, and workplace compliance requirements.

- Experience with onboarding, HR administration, benefits support, and HRIS systems.

- Ability to build trusted relationships with frontline employees, supervisors, and ownership while maintaining a practical and approachable leadership style.
