Position Summary:
To plan, coordinate, and administer the district's transportation program in accordance with New Jersey statutes, administrative code, and Board policy while ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation of students.
The Transportation Coordinator oversees transportation operations, routing, contracts, budgeting, state reporting, and vendor relations, and serves as the primary liaison for transportation related inquiries.
Qualifications:
NJ School Transportation Supervisor certification required High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in school transportation, logistics, or a related field;
New Jersey public school experience preferred. Knowledge of New Jersey Department of Education transportation regulations, statutes, and reporting requirements, including transportation aid and DRTRS reporting. Experience developing transportation routes, bid specifications, contracts, and joint transportation agreements. Experience with transportation routing software (Transfinder preferred), Power School or comparable student information systems, and Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace. Knowledge of student registration, residency verification, and enrollment procedures preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with parents, school administrators, contractors, and community members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and administer a transportation program that supports the daily instructional program and extracurricular activity of students. Survey transportation needs of resident students for recommending routing. Prepare tiered transportation specifications for routes for bidding of all public and nonpublic schools within the district according to state statute. Review and prepare bid award recommendations. Prepare draft transportation agenda entry listings for administration and board of education review and possible action.
Prepare contracts, jointures and required state reports. Advise on and administer the transportation budget, including processing and payment of vendor's invoices. Prepare annually the District Report of Transported Resident Students (DRTRS) Prepare annually the transportation lists for the district's schools and issue School Bus Notices to all transported students. Serve as liaison to address parent and community concerns related to transportation policy, procedure and requests.
Maintain and update the district's computerized routing programs and records. Assist administration in planning educational field trips. Collaborate with the District Homeless Liaison to ensure transportation is provided in accordance with the requirements of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, including coordinating transportation arrangements for eligible students and maintaining required documentation. Advise Business Administrator of suggested transportation needs/enhancements. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the board of education, superintendent of schools and/or the business administrator.
Oversee and manage all aspects of student registration and enrollment process for the district Technology
Skills:
Ability to be proficient in computer applications pertinent to support the position, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, Frontline Applications, and Transfinder.
Evaluation of Performance:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education policy.
Terms of Employment: 12 Month Contract. Salary and benefits as determined by the Board of Education and any applicable and collective negotiations agreement. See above for specific salary information.
