About RWI

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) is an independent academic institution that combines interdisciplinary research with education, support, and outreach activities to contribute to increased understanding of and respect for human rights and international humanitarian law.

We operate in over 40 countries worldwide, and have offices in Lund (head office), Bangkok, Harare, Jakarta, Kyiv, Nairobi, Phnom Penh, and Yerevan.

About the Afghanistan Programme

RWI's Afghanistan Programme aims to contribute to better-informed strategies to promote and protect human rights in Afghanistan. It does this by supporting Afghan scholars and civil society with research, training and engagement with international mechanisms, including the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan who is a Visiting Professor at RWI.

About the internship

In this internship, you will support the Afghanistan Programme's communication work, with a particular focus on social media, content creation, and translations. You will work closely with the team to support outreach and communication activities, including providing communication support to the Visiting Professor, such as assisting with speeches, recording videos, and supporting the posting of video content.

Your responsibilities will include supporting social media activities by drafting and posting content, as well as assisting in tracking readership and referencing of communications to monitor results. You will contribute to drafting short texts such as statements and video scripts, support the recording of videos and simple communication materials, and assist in recording and preparing podcast content.

In addition, you will provide translation and language support by translating content between English, Dari, and Pashto, ensuring accuracy and clarity in multilingual communication. The role also involves supporting the creation of simple visuals related to human rights topics and assisting with design tools such as Canva, with knowledge of Illustrator considered an advantage.

Finally, you will support the programme team members with communication-related tasks, contributing to the overall effectiveness and reach of the programme's communication efforts.

About you

We are looking for a candidate with strong language and communication skills, including full fluency in English. The ideal candidate has a good understanding of human rights, with particular insight into the situation in Afghanistan, and demonstrates an interest in communication and social media, supported by some basic practical experience. The candidate should have a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, with experience in Excel considered an advantage.

Flexibility is important in this role, as the candidate is expected to provide support during programme activities when needed. Knowledge of Dari and Pashto, as well as Swedish, is not required; however, it would be considered an asset.

You should be comfortable drafting simple, clear, and well-structured written content, and have familiarity with tools such as Canva; experience with Illustrator is considered an advantage. The role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, managing tasks proactively while contributing to shared goals.

Applicants who have parallel financial support (e.g. CSN, stipends, Arbetsförmedlingen, or part-time work) will be preferred.

Applicants must hold the necessary permits to be able to work in Sweden.
