Description We are seeking an experienced, dedicated professional to join our team as a Traveling Civil General Foreman
. This is an hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Northwest Operations Manager. The Traveling Civil General Foreman is responsible for leading field crews on civil construction projects while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. In this position, you must understand and promote employee safety as your top priority.
- Valid driver's license is required upon hire and as a condition of continued employment.
- 10-15 years of heavy civil, industrial, or mining construction experience with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Previous experience leading crews on heavy civil construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, concrete construction, underground utilities, drainage systems, HDPE piping, and structural concrete.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
- Working knowledge of construction methods, equipment, and materials common to heavy civil construction.
- MSHA experience preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with daily reporting, documentation, and basic computer skills.
- Work is performed in various industrial settings, including mining operations, construction sites, fabrication facilities, and remote project locations. Work sites may include exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, airborne particles, dust, fumes, chemicals, and high noise levels.
- While performing the duties of this job, employees will be required to stand, walk, climb ladders, work on uneven terrain, kneel, crouch, reach, sit, talk, hear, and work on elevated platforms.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, gloves, respirator when required, and steel-toed boots.
- Frequent travel is required, including overnight stays and extended assignments at project locations throughout Northern, Nevada and potential other locations.
- Promote safety as the company's number one priority.
- Supervise and lead civil construction crews consisting of entry-level through journeyman-level employees.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily construction activities while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.
- Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings.
- Estimate labor, equipment, materials, and supplies required to complete assigned work.
- Develop daily work plans, crew assignments, and production schedules to meet project deadlines.
- Perform and oversee heavy civil construction including site preparation, excavation, grading, underground utilities, concrete construction, foundations, drainage systems, HDPE pipe installation, structural concrete, and related industrial civil work.
- Coordinate equipment, subcontractors, and material deliveries to maintain project productivity.
- Conduct daily safety meetings, complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and enforce all company, MSHA, OSHA, and customer safety requirements.
- Inspect work areas to ensure quality standards and project specifications are met.
- Complete daily reports, production logs, time sheets, accident reports, and work orders.
- Train, mentor, and develop craft employees while maintaining accountability and productivity.
- Organize and maintain required site documentation, including MSHA 5000-23 training records, site-specific training documentation, badges, and certifications, ensuring records are available upon request.
- Be willing and able to work various schedules, including day shift, night shift, weekends, holidays, and extended out-of-town assignments as required.
- Travel extensively to project locations throughout Northern Nevada with potential for other locations.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Ability to fully understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Work cooperatively and maintain positive working relationships with customers, coworkers, subcontractors, and project leadership.
- Safely lift up to 50-75 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
