Position Summary
Under the direction of the building principal and/or district administration, the Reading Interventionist/Literacy Interventionist Teacher provides targeted literacy instruction and intervention services to students who require additional support in foundational reading skills, language development, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. The interventionist collaborates with teachers, administrators, instructional staff, and families to support a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) focused on improving student literacy outcomes through evidence-based instructional practices aligned to Nevada Academic Content Standards and the Science of Reading.
The Reading Interventionist/Literacy Interventionist Teacher supports district literacy goals by utilizing assessment data to identify student needs, deliver interventions, monitor progress, and assist staff with literacy best practices and instructional strategies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The following statements describe the general responsibilities and work performed in this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.
Instruction and Intervention
* Provide direct literacy intervention services to students individually and in small groups.
* Deliver evidence-based reading instruction aligned with the Science of Reading and Nevada Academic Content Standards.
* Support student development in:
* Phonemic awareness
* Phonics
* Fluency
* Vocabulary
* Reading comprehension
* Writing and language skills
* Implement Tier II and Tier III interventions within the district MTSS framework.
* Implement intervention programs and instructional strategies aligned to district curriculum and literacy initiatives.
* Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, linguistic, cultural, and social-emotional needs of students based on student performance data and identified needs.
* Support English Language Learners and students with disabilities through collaboration and instructional accommodations.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring
* Administer and analyze literacy screening and diagnostic assessments including district-approved assessments such as NWEA MAP Growth and other literacy measures.
* Monitor and maintain accurate records of student progress, intervention services, and assessment data.
* Assist in identifying students needing additional interventions or referrals for further evaluation.
* Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Improvement Plans (IIPs) and literacy intervention plans in collaboration with classroom teacher and Learning Strategist.
* Use data to adjust instruction and intervention plans to improve student outcomes.
* Communicate student progress with teachers, administrators, and families.
Collaboration and Leadership
* Collaborate with classroom teachers to align interventions with core instruction.
* Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), MTSS meetings, IEP meetings, and student support meetings as appropriate.
* Assist teachers with instructional strategies, intervention resources, and literacy best practices.
* Support implementation of district literacy initiatives and improvement plans.
* Participate in district and school professional development activities.
* Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
* Work collaboratively with instructional support staff
Program Support
* Assist with the implementation of district literacy programs and curriculum.
* Maintain intervention materials and instructional resources.
* Support district efforts related to school improvement, literacy grants, and state reporting requirements.
* Promote a positive learning environment focused on student growth, engagement, and achievement.
Additional Duties
* Follow all district policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
* Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with FERPA and district policy.
* Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and ethical conduct.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
Desired Skills/Experience/Education
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily.
* Valid Nevada Teaching License issued by the Nevada Department of Education.
* Appropriate endorsement(s) required by the Nevada Department of Education.
* Experience in elementary or secondary literacy instruction preferred.
