Two Senior Lecturers in Medical Research
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top universities. The University has around 46,000 students and 8,500 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain, and improve our world and the human condition.
The positions are located within the Faculty of Medicine. Departmental placement will be determined at the time of appointment. Premises, other infrastructure, and resources for the positions are financed in accordance with the standard model used by the Faculty. The positions are not a so-called combined position and cannot be converted into one. Since the subject is defined as medical research, there is no specific need to fill.
The purpose of these positions is to recruit internationally competitive researchers with documented ability to conduct independent high-quality research and with clear potential to develop into future leaders in academia.
Work duties mainly include independent research and development work, supervision of M.Sc. and PhD students, but also teaching in first- and second-cycle education, leadership, and administration. Additional work duties may also be included.
Qualifications Chapter 4, section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance states that a person shall be qualified for appointment as Senior Lecturer if he or she has demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a PhD or has corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve.
The successful applicant is to have completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or have acquired corresponding skills, unless there are valid reasons. In such cases, the appointee is to complete the required training in teaching and learning in higher education within the first two years of employment.
Basis for assessment The applicant is to have demonstrated research and teaching expertise of significance for the subject. In ranking qualified applicants, particular weight will be attached to scientific skills. The applicant shall have demonstrated scientific skill through maintaining a high national and international standard as a researcher and should possess well substantiated scientific competence. The applicant is to hold a PhD in a subject area of relevance to the position.
Scientific excellence must be demonstrated through an independent research profile that has achieved international recognition and impact. This entails that the applicant has established an independent line of research distinct from that of previous supervisors or research environments, has secured ongoing competitive research funding as the principal investigator, has completed a postdoctoral period in a research environment other than that in which the doctoral degree was obtained, and has published in peer-reviewed journals.
Particular emphasis will be placed on publications where the applicant is the senior author.
Importance shall also be attached to teaching skills and the ability to supervise M.Sc. and PhD students. The applicant is to have demonstrated expertise in teaching and supervision in first, second-, and third-cycle education. Skills in leadership, ability to co-operate, and ability to integrate with the surrounding community will also be taken into consideration. In the appointment process, particular emphasis will be placed on the applicant's potential for scientific development.
This includes the ability to build and lead a competitive research environment over the long term. The applicant's research profile must also demonstrate the potential to strengthen the Faculty's international impact and contribute to the development of excellent research environments. Particular emphasis will be placed on the applicant's potential to develop into a future professor, including the ability to build and lead a competitive research environment on a long-term basis.
