Position SummaryWhile working with a mentor teacher, the student teacher will follow and develop lesson plans to implement daily instruction aligned with the Common Core State Standards and the Lyon County School District approved curriculum. The substitute teacher will create and maintain an educational atmosphere that encourages effective learning and supports school and district programs and goals. The person will be expected to adhere to the LCSD Professional Standards for Licensed Employees as outlined in policy and the CBA and report directly to the school site administrator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Administer district curriculum aligned with the Nevada State Standards and upcoming Common Core State Standards.
- Ensure a respectful learning environment for all students.
- Create and maintain a positive, orderly, academically focused instructional environment.
- Develop and implement effective lessons using the LCSD lesson plan template.
- Analyze student progress and provide individualized instruction and feedback.
- Ensure compliance with special services such as IEPs and other related mandates.
- Provide classroom management and discipline ensuring safety at all times.
- Actively contribute to the School Improvement Plan (SIP) process.
- Ensure compliance with assessment regulations and guidelines.
- Facilitate an effective advisory program as outlined by administration and/or district.
- Collaborate professionally with administration, staff, parents, and community.
- Integrate technology into instructional programs, curriculum, and lessons.
- Maintain accurate and timely records in Power School.
- Participate in other job-related duties and activities as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in a secondary classroom.
- Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum and student goals.
- Establish and communicate clear expectations for lessons, units, and projects.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned to meet the needs of all students.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
- Maintain and improve professional competence through continued education and in-service.
- Communicate professionally in written, oral, and non‑verbal terms.
Must have a substitute teacher license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (http://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
Must meet the mandatory qualifications listed in the appropriate position vacancy announcement for certificated licensed positions.
Physical and Mental RequirementsStrength, dexterity, coordination, and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods; ability to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods; dexterity and coordination for handling files, lifting up to 25 pounds; ability to operate educational technology such as LCD projector, Smart Board, iPads/Tablets; hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
Working ConditionsClassroom settings ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat; noise levels varying from moderate to very loud; crowded environments. Hazards include classroom furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals, power/hand‑operated equipment.
