English as a Second Language Teacher

Salary Range: $50,761 - $92,279 annually with Employer-paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience.

Terms of Employment

Term: 9 months (185/189 days).

FLSA Status: Exempt, salaried position assigned to the Licensed Employee Salary Schedule.

Position Summary

The ESL teacher is responsible for establishing teaching strategies based upon proven instructional techniques designed to benefit English Language Learners (ELLs) in push-in or pull-out classroom environments. This person will adhere to LCSD Professional Standards, CBA, and report directly to the school site administrator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow mandated compliance standards established by Federal, State, or District regulations for ESL program development and implementation.
  • Maintain appropriate student records and submit required reports and other information for effective, efficient operation of the school within designated time limits.
  • Demonstrate mastery of content and pedagogy (ESL), knowledge of students and resources, set instructional outcomes for diverse learners, and design coherent instruction and student assessments aligned to Common Core State Standards and WIDA.
  • Demonstrate acceptable command of the English language in written and oral communication formats.
  • Attend and participate in all required training.
  • Manage and assign additional adult program support as necessary, i.e., paraprofessional, and maintain accurate and timely records in Power School.
  • Provide meaningful, relevant activities for instruction, and ensure student progress is monitored through regular data collection.
  • Communicate learning expectations clearly to students, engage students in learning, embed assessment in instruction, and demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Establish a culture of learning, create an environment of respect and rapport, and manage student behaviors.

  • Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum and student goals.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives to meet needs of English Language Learners.
  • Participate as a collaborative member with other faculty and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence through continued education and in-service training.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively in written, oral and non-verbal terms.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as may be assigned by the site administrator/supervisor.
Position Requirements

Education and Training: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
Master’s Degree preferred. Experience working in an English as a Second Language setting preferred.

Licenses and

Certifications:

Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education and be certified in the relevant subject area. Must possess a TESL endorsement issued by the Nevada Department of Education.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Must possess the physical and mental abilities described herein, including strength, dexterity, coordination, vision for prolonged keyboard and video terminal use, stamina for bending, stooping, sitting, and standing for long periods, manual dexterity to handle files and single pieces of paper, ability to lift 50 pounds, and ability to restrain students as needed. Working

Conditions

Work performed in climate‑controlled classroom settings with exposure to outdoor weather conditions ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat. May involve moderate to very loud noise levels, crowded environments, and frequent to moderate lifting. Hazards include stress, anxiety, verbal and physical aggression, classroom furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals, and power/hand‑operated equipment and machinery.
