Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Fiber Optic Technician II to join our team in the Technologies and Operations (T&O) – Optical Mechanical Technologies organization. In this hands-on role, you will focus on the fabrication, assembly, and testing of high-quality fiber optic cables and components that directly support Sub-critical Experiments and collaborating National Weapons Laboratories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble fiber optic cables, connectors, and specialty components to precise technical specifications.
  • Perform fiber optic polishing, fusion splicing, testing, and quality checks to ensure components meet high standards.
  • Support the team with fiber optic-related tasks for ongoing experiments and projects.
  • Work with basic hand tools, powered tools, and fiber optic test equipment (such as RL/IL testers, OTDRs, and microscopes).
  • Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and scientists to complete projects on time.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Supports work at the NLV facility and Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in field related to the position or High School diploma plus 2 years' progressive related experience.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic cable assembly, connectorization, and polishing is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and take direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and work independently when needed.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
  • Ability to work underground and at the Nevada National Security Site is required.
  • The primary work location will be in the forward areas at the Nevada National Security Site (forward areas are approximately 90 miles from North Las Vegas) with some work occasionally performed at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10's, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
  • Frequent travel to the NNSS forward areas will be required (approximately 30 miles beyond the Mercury gate).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance.
