Position: DAF Deputy System Engineering Manager I
Location: Mercury

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Mission
: help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high‑hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy.
Vision
: be the user site of choice for large‑scale, high‑hazard, national security experimentation, with premier facilities and capabilities below ground, on the ground, and in the air.

Responsibilities
  • Manage DAF engineers and engineering activities associated with the DAF Electrical, Mechanical, & Communications and Civil, Structural, & Architectural groups.
  • Understand and maintain assigned system design requirements per the DAF Documented Safety Analysis.
  • Ensure design output documents reflect the design basis and required functional classification of assigned DAF Structures, Systems, and Components.
  • Authorize facility Configuration Management changes and manage the configuration of assigned DAF facility systems.
  • Provide technical support in construction, maintenance, and nuclear operations.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and maintenance personnel to develop proper testing and documentation to support component and system specifications, functions, and operability.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documents, reports, and correspondence to enable business activity.
  • Recruit, select, orient, train, and develop growth opportunities for employees.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment and enforce environment, safety, health, and quality policies and procedures.
  • Interface and communicate effectively with MSTS leadership, National Weapons Lab personnel, Nevada Field Office (NFO), and Defense Nuclear Safety Board (DNFSB) representatives.
  • Promote and participate actively in the MSTS safety concept and employee participation in MSTS environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 11 years of related progressively responsible experience.
  • DOE STD 3009 is preferred; experience working in a government‑regulated industry is acceptable.
  • Experience with requirements‑based systems or industries.
  • Skilled in working and communicating effectively with project functional groups, primarily Design Engineering, Construction, Project Management, and other services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all types of people in a professional and effective manner while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety basis, technical vocabularies, and terminology common to the assignment.
  • Proficient in standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and business usage of English.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance and meet DOE background investigation requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
