Job DescriptionPosition Description
Would you like to have a career with a collaborative, diverse, and dynamic mining company? We have an exciting opportunity for you!
As a Field-Based Health & Safety Specialist embedded with NGM MRM Drill Services, you’ll play a hands-on role supporting both surface and underground drilling operations. You’ll be a visible field presence—working directly with contractors to verify safe work practices, ensure compliance with Barrick’s Contractor Management and Global Drilling Standards, and coach teams on managing high-risk activities.
In this role, you’ll conduct drill rig inspections, Critical Control Verifications, and field audits, while leading hazard identification, incident response, and iCAM investigations to drive learning and prevent recurrence. You’ll partner closely with operations, maintenance, and H&S teams to strengthen contractor performance, close corrective actions, and promote a strong safety culture. If you thrive in the field, value collaboration, and are passionate about keeping people safe, this is an opportunity to make a real impact every day.
Responsibilities
Maintain daily field presence to support drilling operations (surface and underground), verifying safe work execution and compliance with Barrick Contractor Management and Global Drilling Standards.
Inspect drill rigs and work areas (scheduled and unannounced), verify pre-starts, site set-up, and ensure deficiencies are corrected before work continues.
Perform Critical Control Verifications, task observations, and field coaching focused on high-risk drilling activities and effective control use.
Lead and support contractor onboarding, mobilization readiness, training documentation audits, and verification of required authorizations and competencies.
Participate in and facilitate field risk assessments (FRA/FLRA/JHA) to ensure hazards and controls reflect current conditions.
Respond to hazards, near misses, and incidents; stop unsafe work, complete reporting in Isometrix, and lead or participate in incident and iCAM investigations.
Track corrective actions, verify closure and effectiveness, and provide leadership with contractor performance feedback, trends, and priority risks.
Collaborate with operations, maintenance, H&S, and IH teams to resolve field issues, promote industrial hygiene controls, and share learnings.
Maintain professional competency through ongoing training in MSHA/OSHA requirements, Barrick standards, drilling best practices, and site requirements.
Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
Minimum 5 years of drilling and mining experience (surface and underground)
Solid understanding of MSHA health and safety regulations and Nevada Gold Mines HS&E requirements.
Demonstrated experience supporting drilling operations (surface and/or underground) and contractor management oversight.
Skilled in performing drill rig inspections, Critical Control Verifications (CCVs), task observations, and compliance audits; adept in implementing corrective and preventative actions.
Experienced in Isometrix incident reporting and leading/participating in accident and incident investigations, including iCAM.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and effective at communicating field findings to contractors and internal stakeholders.
