Job Description
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Performs duties as a Facility System Engineer (Senior Engineer) at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experimentation (PULSE), an underground nuclear facility located in the forward areas at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). Facility System Engineers are instrumental in ensuring the PULSE is capable of executing national-level experiments that ensure the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile remains safe, secure, and effective.
This position will initially support the design, construction, turnover, and commissioning of two new testbeds at PULSE, then transition into the PULSE Facility Engineering group as the original Subject Matter Expert/Cognizant System Engineer for one or more systems (cranes/load handling, chilled water/HVAC, refuge station, fire protection, electrical, or similar) developed as part of the new testbeds.
- Support the line-item projects developing the new testbeds. Tasks will include, but not be limited to: development of System Design Descriptions, Functional Classification Documents, system maintenance requirements, operating procedures, acceptance test plans, and similar; compilation and review of turnover documentation; and participation in design and safety basis reviews and acceptance tests.
- Responsible for maintaining overall cognizance of assigned facility systems, providing system engineering, cognizant system engineering, and design authority support for operations and maintenance, and technical support of line management safety responsibilities for ensuring continued system operational readiness.
- Validates physical configuration of assigned systems. Maintains and updates system documents for Configuration Management (CM). Understands the functions and performance criteria for assigned systems per the Safety Basis, and acts as the subject matter expert for assigned systems.
- Conducts or oversees the In-service Inspections and Technical Surveillance Requirement execution of assigned systems.
- Identifies and helps implement the technical requirements for maintaining systems, structures, and components.
- Performs assessments of assigned systems and reports system health status to management.
- Contribute to solutions of assignment-related complex problems using a well-defined set of technologies. Solutions use established basic standards, practices and procedures as well as technical knowledge to address problems and complete tasks.
- Lead the development of designs, strategies, reports and technical proposals.
- Perform design and technical analysis activities using prescribed codes and standards, computer software, and generally accepted best management practices.
