Responsibilities

Do you want to be a part of a national security mission that conducts research and development? Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer I to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide Timing and Firing (T&F) support, diagnostic fielding, and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to collaborate in design, development, characterization, and fielding of T&F systems, and diagnostics systems on physics experiments conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experimentation (PULSE) Complex and other facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

This Electrical Engineer will report primarily to the NNSS and will support fielding efforts for T&F with diagnostic detection and recording systems, with an emphasis in the practical applications of diagnostics systems related to Timing and Firing activities such as characterization of high frequency data, electro-optical transmission systems, and firing diagnostic recoding systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Frequently use and apply established technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques commonly associated with Firing systems and data collection systems.
  • Operate diagnostic systems and collect data.
  • Focus is on applying academic knowledge to the work environment and developing good work/team habits.
  • Contribute to solutions of problems and issues with limited scope and basic complexity, using a well-defined set of technologies, generally in support of more senior engineers and scientists.
  • Assist in compiling and summarizing scientific and technical data, utilizing technology solutions for both experimental and operational needs.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project deliverables.
  • Define specifications for procurements and initiates purchase requests.
  • Select and implement computer applications for related field.
  • Build direct relationships with laboratory partners and will use scientific methods to contribute to experimental operations, also reporting on accomplishments to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support research and development, and technology maturation activities in laboratory testing environments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees.
  • Ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position.
  • Knowledge/experience with fiber optics and diode lasers.
  • Knowledge/experience with coax cables and other types of copper transmission lines.
