Project OverviewThacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. The mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the U.S., powering electric vehicles and supporting clean energy. Bechtel, as the EPCM contractor, is responsible for managing and integrating engineering, procurement, construction, and procurement of about $1 billion in goods and services.
Job SummaryProvide technical oversight of the project’s ES&H compliance activities through inspection of field execution activities. Assist project and construction management in implementing and complying with safety requirements and addressing ES&H issues during execution.
Major Responsibilities- Assist in Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) disciplines to implement Bechtel’s ES&H program and management system.
- Develop, implement, and maintain programs, systems, and procedures for employee safety and environmental protection.
- Maintain ES&H databases including incident events, audit findings, and corrective actions.
- Perform statistical analysis of ES&H data to identify performance trends.
- Identify and support unique software systems and electronic innovations used by ES&H personnel.
- Lead teams in risk assessment, mitigation planning, and monitoring of ES&H issues.
- Prepare communications, reports, and documents for program execution and records retention.
- Assist with incident notifications, lead investigations, and prepare incident investigation reports.
- Recommend and implement improvements in processes to minimize hazard potential.
- Participate in employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.
- Research moderate‑complex issues, provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
- Support ES&H field and office personnel across all disciplines.
Requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental, safety, health or science‑related discipline and 5‑8 years of relevant experience or 9‑12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge And Skills- Knowledge of OSHA 1926 and 1910.
- Understanding of Bechtel’s ESH Core Processes.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis for incident investigations.
- Conduct Project Contractor Orientation.
- Lead and implement Project ESH Audits, monitor corrective actions.
- Coach Contractor Projects and Safety Team on Bechtel processes.
- Knowledge of safety programs, engineering systems, principles, and methodologies.
- Knowledge of national safety laws, regulations and industry standards.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risks and mitigation mechanisms.
- Experience in ES&H assessments/inspection during construction.
- Experience managing or providing technical oversight of ES&H subcontractors or consultants.
