Open Pit Geologist
Position:
Salaried exempt, 8 on, 6 off, schedule offset to provide up to 7 day/week coverage.
Responsible for production of mine site mapping and drawings, design drawings, ore control calculations, field survey maps, blast movement monitoring, and assisting engineers with mine production reports.
Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties- Develop and implement blast hole/ore control programs that reconcile well with mine models.
- Develop and implement blast movement ore control programs alongside operations personnel and engineers, improving mining compliance and ore delivery to process.
- Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring programs.
- Develop and evaluate resource models.
- Perform pit mapping and data analysis for mine modeling and geotechnical evaluation.
- Monitor groundwater management systems.
- Conduct blast monitoring with respect to geological structures.
- Monitor and evaluate geological and assay data quality.
- Perform resource and mine production reconciliation studies.
- Knowledge of the principles and methods used in open pit hard rock mining.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with various individuals, crews, departments, and organizational levels.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex or diverse information.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to assess risk related to occupational hazards and apply appropriate precautions and safeguards, demonstrating a high level of safety leadership.
- FAA Drone Certification or ability to obtain within first year of hire.
- Demonstrated ability and experience using mine modeling software (Mine Sight preferred).
Bachelor’s degree (B.S) in Geologic Engineering or Geology; 0‑5 years of experience in open pit hard rock mining environment preferred. Candidates with more experience will be considered.
