Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Position OverviewAs a premier provider of mission‑critical support services, the MSTS Nuclear Support Services department is seeking a
** Nuclear Facility Operations Specialist II
** to join our team. In this dynamic role you are a key driver of operational excellence, providing essential support to ensure the resilience, responsiveness, and reliability of the NNSS nuclear facilities. This is not a direct, hands‑on facility operations role; instead you will be part of a team that provides expert support and oversight, enabling front‑line operations to succeed.
- Provide critical support to multiple Nuclear and High‑Hazard facilities, helping them maintain a constant state of operational readiness to accept and support programs and projects.
- Assess operational readiness across the enterprise by conducting independent facility walk‑downs, reviewing operational data, and verifying compliance with Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert on disciplined operations, providing guidance and support to facility personnel to enhance execution of complex procedures.
- Analyze operational performance and data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement; partner with facility management to develop and recommend enhancements to procedures and processes.
- Partner with facility management and project teams to identify and help resolve operational issues, ensuring corrective actions are robust and effectively implemented to prevent recurrence.
- Enable safe execution of mission activities by performing readiness verifications and providing data‑driven assessments to leadership.
- Support line organizations by assisting in the review and verification of procedures, operational documentation, and system configurations to ensure rigorous standards are met.
- Uphold and promote a culture of excellence and disciplined execution, reinforcing the integrity and resilience of the Site’s national security capabilities.
- Minimum
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a field related to the position plus at least 2 years of relevant professional experience, demonstrating a strong understanding of requirements‑based systems. - Experience in areas such as nuclear facility operations, nuclear material operations, radiological facilities, or high explosives handling.
- Proven ability to read, comprehend, and ensure adherence to detailed technical instructions and SOPs.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze operational activities and data, identify potential issues or trends, and recommend sound solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to liaise effectively between support and line organizations.
- Experience or training in nuclear operations or maintenance from a DOE nuclear facility, a commercial nuclear power plant, or the U.S. Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program is a significant plus.
- Experience conducting in‑service inspections (ISIs), system surveillances, or operational readiness assessments.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada). - Work schedule:
4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change). - Pre‑placement physical examination, including a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance‑abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
