Position: CORRECTIONAL CASE WORKER SPECIALIST 2 - ELY
Location: Ely

Job Summary

The Nevada Department of Corrections seeks a Correctional Caseworker Specialist 2 (CCWS2) to report to the Correctional Caseworker Specialist III. The role involves classification committees, inmate reviews, documentation of custody changes, conducting classification hearings, and managing a caseload of special status inmates. The CCWS2 ensures due process rights, handles inmate communications, investigates fund/property issues, coordinates transfers and cell moves, chairs disciplinary committees, processes paperwork, tracks disciplinary actions, prepares parole progress reports, and assists with inmate releases.

Essential

Qualifications
  • High school graduation with five years of experience in correctional, parole, probation or comparable setting, conducting casework services and investigations, and preparing detailed reports; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration or closely related field with three years of relevant experience; OR
  • Master’s degree in a related field with two years of relevant experience; OR
  • Equivalency of education and experience; OR
  • One year of experience as a Correctional Casework Specialist I in Nevada State service.
Job Duties

Conduct routine casework assignments to determine reclassification needs, analyze case factors, and make decisions based on statutes, regulations, and factual evidence.

Serve as a member of the Disciplinary Committee, reviewing cases, evidence, and inmate testimony to determine guilt and corrective action.

Participate in the Classification Committee, presenting file material and aiding in classification decisions.

Prepare parole progress reports and represent the department at parole hearings.

Assist inmates with work assignments, assess abilities, make recommendations, and document work performance.

Respond to inquiries on sentence structure, credits, and inmate work status.

Monitor custody status daily, review movement sheets, incident reports, and ensure due process compliance.

Provide guidance to inmates on institutional rules, behavior modification, and referral processes.

Handle legal matters involving inmates, provide research-based written responses, and draft correspondence for administrators.

Prepare special reports for the Warden or Director regarding good time credit decisions and interstate transfer agreements.

Coordinate inmate movements (release, transfer, housing) and track records and property.

Perform related duties as assigned under supervision of a CCWS

Skills and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of Nevada Revised Statutes, Court Case Law, and Department policies.
  • Proficient in file analysis, investigative techniques, and report preparation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, provide guidance, and resolve complex legal and procedural matters.
