Location: Virginia City
Under general direction of the Communication Director, the incumbent is responsible for emergency and non‑emergency telephone and radio communication for Storey County, performing other assigned work as needed. This civilian, non‑sworn entry‑level position is non‑exempt from the Federal Labor Standards Act.
The role coordinates communication within the county, including but not limited to the Storey County Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, Ambulance Services, and Public Works. It requires collaboration within Storey County and outside agencies as necessary. The communications center operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The incumbent must be willing to work flexible hours and variable days. Professionalism and diplomacy are essential when interacting with the public, co‑workers, and peers from Storey County and other agencies.
The incumbent must process and evaluate 911 calls and other emergency and non‑emergency requests for police, fire, and emergency medical assistance.
Special RequirementsAbility to successfully pass a background investigation to qualify for and maintain certification to operate NCIC, NCJIS, and related computers. Applicant must also pass a pre‑employment drug test.
Required Certifications and LicensesMay be required to have a valid Nevada Class C Driver’s License.
Experience and TrainingAny combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical path to gain the required knowledge and ability includes having a high‑school diploma or equivalent and two years of progressively responsible office experience involving computers, data entry and/or telephone/radio switchboard work.
