Juvenile Probation Officer
Play a part in helping Douglas County's Juvenile Probation office achieve its mission to reduce delinquent behavior among youth by providing targeted interventions that address their specific needs while prioritizing the safety and well-being of the community. While supervising a caseload of juvenile probationers, the Juvenile Probation Officer position also works to counsel and advise juveniles and their families, provide resources, and work with other staff and agencies in developing treatment and intervention plans for youth offenders.
The right candidate will be an individual with a dedication to helping juveniles and the drive and commitment to helping them toward better outcomes.
Primary Objectives
Performs intermediate work performing a variety of duties related to the prevention, treatment or intervention to the Juvenile Court for youth offenders or those at risk of offending the law as well as enforcement of Court ordered supervision. This position is distinguished from the Juvenile Probation Officer Senior in that the latter performs duties under less supervision and may supervise more complex cases;
performs related tasks as apparent or assigned.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts assessments and interviews; works with other staff and agencies in developing treatment plans; teaches and models social skills; applies behavior modification techniques; plans and supervises various programs, such as physical education, work experiences, outdoor intervention programs and recreational activities.
Minimum Qualifications/Certifications & Licenses
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience in providing probation and casework/counseling services to juveniles; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age at date of employment.
- Valid Driver's License
- Nevada POST Category I Basic Certification within one (1) year of date of employment.
- CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of date of employment.
