Description
Deputy Clerk‑Treasurer II will be responsible for filing and maintaining voter registrations and various documents related to elections, coordinating the set‑up of elections, implementing new programs and procedures, and all related election activities. This position will also process monthly settlements from other departments, processing Direct Deposits from the State of Nevada and Investment Pool monies. The Deputy Clerk‑Treasurer II will collect taxes, process fees and deposits;
file and maintain records of various documents.
- Processing and maintaining records of voter registration applications.
- Ensuring that NRS and Federal requirements are met with regard to voter registration and elections.
- Implementing program changes required by NRS and the Federal Government.
- Processing accounts payable vouchers by date‑stamping and collecting vendor remittance slips, and mailing the accounts payable checks upon return from the Comptroller’s office.
- Processing tax payments over the counter and by mail.
- Processing deposits for County departments.
- Processing room tax and preparing reports relating to room tax revenue.
- Processing outgoing and incoming mail.
- Preparing and executing daily bank deposits.
- Filing and indexing fictitious firm names, processing marriage officiant applications, etc.
- Issuing marriage licenses; processing notary bonds and collecting fees; assisting the public; editing materials for clarity.
- Assisting with the preparation of the delinquent property tax auction.
- Maintaining close communication with the Recorder, Comptroller and Assessor Offices.
- Typing agendas and minutes for Commissioners meetings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of: Operational characteristics, services and activities of a Clerk‑Treasurer’s Office; election laws and procedures; political reform requirements;
Business English, spelling and arithmetic; pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; computer systems such as Excel and Word. - Skills to: Prepare correspondence and other written materials; organize, prioritize and coordinate work activities; deal with the public, in person or over the phone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained; assess and prioritize multiple tasks; establish and maintain effective working relations with co‑workers; good English practice for wording minutes and agendas.
- Ability to: Coordinate municipal/local government elections; work discreetly and confidentially with voter records and other confidential matters; develop and administer program goals, objectives and procedures; analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations; interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations; maintain composure under difficult circumstances; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing;
multi‑task and cross‑train in all aspects of the department.
Possession of a valid driver’s license or alternative means of travel. Possession of, or ability to obtain, as appropriate, a valid Nevada Notary Public License; licenses must be maintained and current throughout duration of employment.
