Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the care plan, follows infection prevention and control policies and PPE use, and assists with basic health‑care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support.

The NA assists residents with transfers, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment, provides range‑of‑motion and passive exercises, and completes food‑prep and dining tasks to create a positive dining experience. The NA also aids nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, communicates changes to the charge nurse, collects non‑invasive specimens, maintains housekeeping and laundry services, supports wellness and recreational programs, encourages participation, and may participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and record vital signs.
  • Provide psychosocial support and basic health‑care needs.
  • Assist transfers, repositioning, and walking with proper techniques and equipment.
  • Perform range‑of‑motion and passive exercises.
  • Complete food‑prep, dining, and meal assistance to create a positive dining experience.
  • Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed.
  • Document resident interactions, behaviors, activities, and dietary outcomes.
  • Communicate resident condition changes to the charge nurse.
  • Collect non‑invasive body fluid specimens and record vital signs.
  • Maintain housekeeping and laundry services for residents.
  • Assist with wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation.
  • Participate in departmental/organizational committees and task forces as required.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED preferred (not required).
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of employment; training and certification will be provided.
  • Completes yearly departmental competency testing and maintains yearly continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours). Maintains all required certifications.
  • Certified and registered with Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry where applicable.
  • May be required to be a Sanford Category II Driver with a valid driver’s license and medical qualification as per Sanford Driving Policy.
