Job Summary
The Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Counselor III to provide mental health services to offenders in Lovelock. The role involves counseling, case management, direct clinical services, program development, policy implementation, community and home‑based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill and/or emotionally disturbed clients.
Essential Qualifications- Master’s degree in clinical psychology, psychology, counseling, education, social work, or closely related field AND three years of post‑master’s experience in therapy, psychological testing, and programmatic services in a correctional, rehabilitative, clinic or institutional setting.
- Doctoral degree (Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Educational Psychology, Social Work or closely related field) with one‑year internship and one year of professional experience in the same settings.
- Doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology with one‑year internship and one year of professional experience in the same settings.
- One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor II in Nevada State service.
- Interview individuals to assess treatment, programming, or placement needs and produce behavioral health recommendations.
- Participate in treatment team meetings, analyze options, and schedule appropriate care.
- Provide counseling services—relaxation, relationship, substance abuse, and pain management—to facilitate rehabilitation.
- Deliver crisis intervention, de‑escalation, and debriefing for emergency situations.
- Consult and train staff on policies, procedures, and current scientific developments.
- Plan, develop, and coordinate program services; serve on committees and quality review programs.
- Document activities, maintain records, prepare billing documentation, and recommend third‑party payments.
- Conduct research and evaluation studies to enhance services.
- Handle additional duties as assigned.
- Manage complex caseloads of severely mentally ill or developmentally disabled offenders and lead psycho‑educational programs and groups.
- Assessment tools, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation methods.
- Federal and state mental health laws, intellectual disability laws, and substance abuse laws.
- Correctional programs, policies, confidentiality, client/offender rights, and agency procedures.
- Personality and developmental disorders, survey design, data collection, and statistical analysis.
- Crisis intervention techniques, individual, marital, group, and family counseling techniques.
- Pharmacology of psychotropic medications, including effects, side‑effects, and drug interactions.
- Human services agency roles, community resources, and interagency collaboration.
- Program development, behavior plan implementation, and resource coordination.
- Strong documentation, prioritization, and ethical professional conduct.
