Purpose & Scope of The Position

Under the direction of the Superintendent, Health & Safety - this position is responsible for supporting operations and providing guidance on the implementation of the Health & Safety Strategic Plan in order to reduce risks and improve safety performance with both regulatory requirements and the company objective of “Zero Harm” by working proactively with the KGHM teams and contractors to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe work practices across the site;

observing work behaviors and providing positive reinforcement for safe behaviors as well as appropriate coaching for at-risk behavior; and assisting in the implementation of Health & Safety System monitoring and reporting.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing the Workers Compensation program to ensure compliance with state laws and timely treatment and benefits to claimants. Advise and provide direction to site personnel and employees as workplace injuries/illnesses occur.
  • Manage Workers Compensation third-party administrators and manage healthcare vendors to ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
  • Manage the Functional Capacity Evaluation Program for return to work and job transfers.
  • Administer the Health and Safety Incident System ensuring employees have the necessary access and training to use the system.
  • Manage Federal and State injury reporting and recordkeeping, inclusive of MSHA, OSHA and Nevada Mine Safety regulations.
  • Facilitate the Health & Safety Management System Implementation and Risk Management Process including facilitating team-based risk assessments, supporting employees and supervisors in conducting field level risk assessments/JSA/JHA/5x5s, etc.
  • Participate in the Industrial Hygiene program, conduct sampling, and maintain Industrial Hygiene equipment.
  • Audit and monitor the implementation of the HSMS and other H&S programs and provide feedback to management.
  • Lead, perform, and participate in Health & Safety Inspections to identify substandard conditions and provide expert guidance in developing controls (including regulatory inspections).
  • Develop, conduct and/or facilitate Health & Safety Training and meetings.
  • Participate in and facilitate Incident Investigations for basic root cause analysis.
  • Provide scheduling and training for Safety On-call procedures and WC laws and statutes.
  • Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the success of Robinson Nevada Mining Company and KGHM.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience:
    • 3 plus years of Health & Safety experience, preferably in an open pit mine.
    • 3 plus years Workers Compensation/Injury Management.
  • Licenses:
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Certified MSHA Instructor Surface (IS) (Required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health, Safety or Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent, or High School Diploma with 3+ years of experience in a mining or industrial environment.
  • Experience: 1 plus years in a supervisory role.
Technical Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to manage sensitive/confidential information is required.
  • Ability to positively interact with people is required.
  • Certified Workers’ Compensation Professional is preferred.
  • Certified CPR First Aid/AED or Emergency Medical Responder is preferred.
  • CAOHC Audiometric Certification is preferred.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Excel, Word, PPT, Database Entry, or JDE.
  • Ability to operate various audiovisual devices such as video equipment, camera, projector and other training and presentation equipment.
Travel Requirements
  • Willing to travel as necessary.

Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to meet the required physical demands, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
