Ultrasound Tech - Per Diem
In lieu of benefits due to "per diem" status, 15% will be added to the hourly rate. Per diem employees are offered work on an "as-needed" basis.
Position Summary:
Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by the attending physician.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Education:
- Graduate of accredited imaging based school.
Certification required:
- Current BLS certification required.
Certification preferred:
- ARDMS – American Registered Diagnostic Sonographer Registered or completed within 6 months of eligibility.
OR
- ARRT – American Registry Radiologic Technologist with certification in sonography RT (R) (S).
Minimum
Work Experience:
- Ability to communicate with employees, physicians, patients and administrative staff in a courteous and professional manner.
Position
Essential Functions:
Patient Care:
- Review medical records for patient history and supporting clinical data.
- Explain procedure to patient; provide patient care, support, comfort, safety and confidentiality.
- Select equipment and imaging modalities, position and prep, to facilitate optimum diagnostic studies.
Ultrasound:
- Perform all ultrasound techniques and examinations offered at this facility.
- Display a broad knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and pathology to obtain optimal studies.
- Select and record preliminary study results on work sheet.
- Make pertinent measurements and label.
- Direct study to Radiologist for interpretation.
- Consult with Radiologist about unusual scans and assist with interpretation.
- Provide written unofficial reports and worksheets of examination.
Reports:
- Select and record preliminary study results on work sheet.
- Make pertinent measurements and label.

- Consult with Radiologist about unusual scans and assist with interpretation.
- Provide written unofficial reports and worksheets of examination.
- Assist physician in such procedures as needle biopsies, amniocentesis, thoracentesis and other invasive procedures as needed, maintaining sterile technique.
- Maintain ultrasonography equipment. Recognize malfunctions and need for servicing. Ensure quality control procedures are maintained. Order department supplies.
