Logistics Specialist (Finance)
Stella-Jones is seeking a proactive, cost-conscious, and relationship-driven Logistics Specialist to join our team in Silver Springs, NV.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing least-cost transportation strategies for the distribution of finished and unfinished products across our network and to our valued customers. You will build and leverage strong carrier partnerships, optimize freight movements, and collaborate closely with sales and operations to deliver efficient, reliable logistical solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Transportation Planning & Execution: Secure reliable freight capacity (truck/rail) to meet all organizational logistics needs while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Dispatch Operations: Execute daily dispatch duties for assigned locations in accordance with standardized operating procedures.
- Network Optimization &
Collaboration:
Partner with the broader logistics team to coordinate asset sharing, eliminate bottlenecks, and capture continuous improvement opportunities. - Carrier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong working relationships with core and new freight carriers; evaluate carrier performance, strengths, and sourcing opportunities.
- Rate Management & Sales Support: Maintain accurate freight rate databases and partner with the sales team to provide prompt, competitive freight quotes.
- Cross-Functional Communication
:
Serve as the critical bridge between sales, plant operations, carriers, and customers to ensure on-time, transparent deliveries. - Emergency & Disruption Support
:
Provide rapid-response logistical support and contingency planning during weather events, rail delays, or urgent customer needs. - Safety & Special Projects
:
Actively participate in plant and corporate safety initiatives; contribute logistical insight to business development and network optimization projects.
- Experience: 2-4+ years of experience in logistics, freight dispatch, transportation planning, or supply chain management (manufacturing, industrial, or building materials background preferred).
- Cost & Strategy Focus: Demonstrated ability to negotiate competitive freight rates and identify least-cost routing/distribution strategies.
- Communication & Negotiation: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, carriers, and internal teams.
- Problem-Solving
Skills:
Agile thinker capable of troubleshooting transit issues, re-routing shipments, and solving real-time logistics challenges. - Technical Proficiency: Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), ERP platforms (such as SAP), and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Safety-First Orientation: Commitment to upholding high standards of workplace and transportation safety.
