The Health, Safety & Security (HSS) Superintendent is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading occupational safety, health, and security programs that ensure all employees, contractors, and visitors return home safe and healthy every day. This role provides site‑wide leadership for regulatory compliance, behavior‑based safety, risk management, training, and emergency preparedness across Anglo Gold Ashanti’s Nevada operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesRegulatory Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local safety and health laws, regulations, and codes (including MSHA).
- Maintain required certifications, training, and credentials to act as a signing authority on safety and health matters.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of applicable safety, health, and security regulations.
- Implement and standardize HSS systems, processes, and procedures across Nevada operations.
- Lead behavior‑based safety programs focused on positive reinforcement, hazard recognition, and safe work behaviors.
- Promote visible felt leadership and reinforce stop‑work authority at all levels of the organization.
- Lead fatal risk management and lifesaving controls programs.
- Maintain a Safety Management Information System (SMIS) to track compliance, incidents, trends, and emerging risks.
- Lead formal risk assessments and field‑based risk identification programs.
- Analyze incident data to identify trends, root causes, and proactive mitigation strategies.
- Lead incident investigations and corrective action tracking.
- Support area managers with workplace inspections and hazard controls.
- Lead MSHA New Miner training and site‑specific safety and health orientations.
- Deliver safety leadership, hazard recognition, incident prevention, and investigation training to all levels of the organization.
- Provide contractor safety orientation and monitor contractor compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Develop and refresh safety communications, promotional materials, and awareness campaigns.
- Lead emergency response planning, drills, and training.
- Maintain employee medical monitoring programs.
- Lead industrial hygiene monitoring programs (chemicals, air, water, noise, heat).
- Oversee hazardous materials training and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management systems.
- Advise site leadership on safety, health, and security risks and performance.
- Champion continuous improvement in safety culture and performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (preferred; ISHM or ABET accredited).
- Certified MSHA Instructor (required).
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of safety and health leadership experience in the U.S. mining industry (Nevada preferred).
- Strong background in behavior‑based safety systems.
- Extensive working knowledge of MSHA standards.
- Proven experience delivering training and leading site‑wide safety programs.
