Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company's portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018.
Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross' Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job Summary
This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Processing areas, including the Mill, Crushers, RM ADR, South Dedicated Plant, and North Dedicated Plant. Establishes priorities based on process flow and crushing targets and coordinates resources to support the daily plan.
Essential Functions
1. Maintain overall accountability for safe and efficient operation of assigned processing areas to meet production and crushing targets.
2. Plan and execute shift activities by assigning work, directing resources, and coordinating with the General Foreman and area supervisors; ensure adequate crew coverage to meet operating needs.
3. Model expected behaviors to maintain a respectful, safe, and productive work environment; address individual and team issues promptly and appropriately.
4. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and applicable safety and environmental requirements; lead required safety meetings/toolbox talks.
5. Complete and/or verify accurate shift documentation (production, shift logs, maintenance activities, and required safety/environment/performance records).
6. Coach, train, and develop employees; verify task competency, provide feedback, and document performance as required.
7. Monitor plant conditions and communicate significant process changes, equipment issues, staffing concerns, incidents, and near misses to management; escalate major incidents, injuries, and events resulting in significant downtime per department expectations.
8. Support staffing activities as assigned, including participation in interviews and selection recommendations.
9. Administer corrective action in coordination with management and Human Resources, consistent with company policies and procedures.
10. Use sound judgment and discretion when making operational decisions; apply rules and policies fairly and consistently.
11. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
1. Minimum five (5) years' experience in mill and/or ore processing operations, including demonstrated experience coordinating work activities and leading crews (lead/operator-in-charge/supervisor).
2. Demonstrated ability to interpret operating data (trends, alarms, and process results) and adjust plant conditions to maintain throughput, product quality, and environmental compliance.
3. Demonstrated safety leadership and strong knowledge of applicable safety and regulatory requirements; able to coach employees on safe work practices and verify task training/competency.
4. Reads, understands, and communicates operating procedures; identifies the need for procedure changes and coordinates updates through appropriate channels.
5. Communicates effectively (verbal and written) and interacts professionally with all levels of employees and management; maintains continuity through shift-to-shift communication.
6. Proficient PC skills (word processing and spreadsheets); ability to use operational/production reporting systems as required (e.g., dispatch/communication systems and site business systems).
7. Demonstrated organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to prioritize, work independently, and function effectively as part of a leadership team.
8. Willing and able to attend required training classes to maintain and improve supervisory effectiveness.
9. Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work full-time in the United States.
10. Valid driver's license required.
11. High school diploma or GED required; technical training or coursework in process operations, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred.
