Lund Research and Education

Internship:
Unpaid, 20h per week.

Location:

Lund, Sweden, in a combination of on-site and remote. Duration:
Autumn term 2026 with possible extension to the end of the academic year.

About RWI

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) is an independent academic institution that combines interdisciplinary research with education, support, and outreach activities to contribute to increased understanding of and respect for human rights and international humanitarian law.

We operate in over 40 countries worldwide, and have offices in Lund (head office), Bangkok, Harare, Jakarta, Kyiv, Nairobi, Phnom Penh, and Yerevan.

RWI and NHRI's

Currently, RWI is aiming to consolidate and further develop its cooperation with National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) around the world. Since 1995, RWI has contributed to strengthening the human rights, operational and functional capacity of over 50 NHRIs, so they could fulfil their mandate to promote and protect human rights. Over the years, the Institute has developed a unique model for capacity building of NHRIs that focuses on all facets of the institution, starting from a base level of ensuring basic operational and human rights knowledge capacities, all the way up to its functional capacities leading towards international accreditation.

About

the internship

During the internship, you will contribute to ongoing work aimed at strengthening National Human Rights Institutions internationally through knowledge sharing, capacity development and communication activities.

You will collect, analyse and share information on new developments related to NHRIs and their work, and you will support the development of initiatives that aim to strengthen their capacities globally. You will also contribute to updates and content for our website and other materials linked to our work with NHRIs, as well as help produce communication content for social media and other channels.

In addition, you will assist with related administrative tasks as needed.

Upon completion of the internship, you will be expected to write a brief report to contribute to the continuous evaluation and improvement of the internship programme. You will also be provided with a certificate acknowledging your time, engagement, and contributions to the organisation.

Unfortunately, the internship is unpaid, and we don't have funds to cover any costs relating to it.

About you

You are currently enrolled in a relevant master's programme at Lund University, or in another relevant academic programme within commuting distance to Lund. You have a general understanding of human rights and related fields, as well as some knowledge of National Human Rights Institutions. You communicate fluently in English and have strong writing skills.

You are able to work independently as well as in teams, and you collaborate well with others. You are reliable, curious, and proactive in your approach.

Applicants must hold the necessary permits to be able to work in Sweden.

Application Process

Apply with your CV and by answering the selection questions no later than 22 June.

Please note that applications sent by email will not be registered.

Every application is reviewed with care. Our recruitment team takes the time to assess each candidate thoughtfully and thoroughly. Once your application is submitted, you will receive system-generated confirmations and updates. These are triggered by our recruitment team to keep you informed throughout the process.

If we decide not to invite you for an interview, we unfortunately won't be able to provide individual feedback. While we appreciate the effort behind every application, the volume of candidates makes personalised responses impossible.

For any questions about the position, please contact Josh Ounsted, sted.se

We look forward to receiving your application!

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute promotes diversity and welcomes applications from all qualified persons, regardless of race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, age, disability, or other protected status under the law.

Please note that RWI has pre-selected relevant advertising and recruitment channels for this call. We therefore kindly but firmly decline contact from media sales representatives, recruitment platforms, or similar service providers.
