Med/Surg Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) (Nights) - Full TimeFull Time Gardnerville, NV, US
36 hours/week (days vary - three 12 hour shifts);
Position SummaryThe Med-Surg/ICU Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care and support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in both the Medical‑Surgical and Intensive Care Units. The CNA assists with basic patient care tasks, ensures patient comfort, and contributes to a safe and healing environment. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity setting.
Position RequirementsMinimum Education:
- High school graduate or equivalency.
- Completion of a state‑approved Certified Nursing Assistant training program.
License
Required:
- Current license as certified nurse assistance in the State of Nevada required.
Certification
Required:
- BLS for healthcare providers required.
Minimum
Work Experience:
- Ability to communicate with employees, physicians, patients and administrative staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Professional customer service skills.
- Ability to read and communicate in English; bilingual abilities preferred.
- Previous acute care CNA experience preferred.
Patient Care:
- Obtains basic age‑appropriate measures including but not limited to vital signs and intake/output volumes. Reports abnormalities to an RN.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, feeding, and toileting.
- Assists with specimen collection, nutrition, elimination and pulmonary support.
- Provides basic physical care and comfort measures.
- Provides assistance with thermal application, non‑sterile soaks, application of simple dressings, and perineal care.
- Assists with patient mobility, including turning, positioning, transferring, and ambulating patients as needed.
- Assists with positioning and transporting patients for various procedures.
Patient Safety and Comfort:
- Ensures patient comfort by providing assistance with positioning, using pillows, and ensuring the proper use of medical equipment like bed alarms and side rails.
- Monitors and responds to patient call lights, providing timely assistance and escalating issues to nursing staff when necessary.
- Observes and reports changes in patient condition, behavior, or comfort level to the supervising nurse.
Support for Nursing Staff:
- Assists nursing staff with procedures, including setting up equipment and ensuring a clean and organized environment.
- Transports patients to and from diagnostic tests, procedures, and other units as required.
Maintains a clean and safe environment by following infection control protocols and ensuring proper disposal of waste and soiled linens.
Documentation:
- Assists the care team by collecting patient care data at designated and appropriate intervals on all assigned patients. Reports findings to licensed staff.
- Recognizes and accurately reports relevant patient information to licensed staff.
- Communicates appropriate information regarding patient safety and infection control to RN or nurse manager.
- Ensures that all aspects of patient care are documented, and that documentation is accurate and complete.
Scope of Service:
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by unit as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes but is not limited to the age of the client served.
- As directed by the licensed nursing staff, provides care in a manner that is safe and sensitive to the rights of each patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in use of special equipment. Operates and ensures proper functioning of equipment; ensures uses of supplies are accurately documented; maintains accurate and complete documentation of supply charges.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in specific areas of clinical experience, as applicable.
